A fun day was had by all - from our base in Oldham we were very pleased to be able to manage 6 contests in the Saddleworth Area which gave us a much sought after grading, a very pleasing 28th place overall. The contests that we did were : Greenacres, Lees and Springhead, Grotton, Lydgate, Greenfield and finishing off with one of the most famous, Dobcross. The atmosphere was electric as we played our contest march, 'The Contestor' on the green at Dobcross to a crowd of many hundreds. Althought the light was not good at 10.30 in the evening we were rewarded with a very pleasing 23rd place at this contest, one of the biggest on the circuit. Several good results were got, including 22nd at Grotton and 26th at Lees and Springhead. Highlights of the day included the boys of Brighouse and Rastrick watching our marching at Lees and also Grotton, and of course the welcoming and friendly atmospheres at all the contests that we attended - the applause and cheering of the crowds as we marched down at each location is something to be remembered. Plus of course the superb beer that was readily available at every location! Our thanks must go out to all those who bolstered sections on the day, and to those who arranged the trip. Here's to next year! Photographs of the day can be found here : http://www.stalbansband.co.uk/component/option,com_zoom/Itemid,34/catid,13/ |
