Gari Spearpoint - Flugel Horn PDF Print E-mail

Gari has played at the highest level attained by brass bands for over 30 years. He has played under the direction of some of the leading figures in the brass band world including; James Watson, Dennis Wick, Melvyn White and James Williams. His banding activities have been undertaken in parallel with a successful business career.

From 1974 to 1990 he played Tenor horn with Enfield Band where he was "bumper up" Solo Horn to Phil Wilson. He assumed the Principal's chair when Phil moved to Australia. During his time with Enfield, he toured Australia & New Zealand, Canada, Norway and Holland. Enfield enjoyed a busy recording programme on both LP and national and overseas radio. The band's extensive concert programme included prestigious venues such as Wembley Stadium, The Royal Albert Hall and Queen Elizabeth Hall.

In 1990 Gari joined the horn section of John Laing (Hendon) band, one of the leading Championship section bands in the London area. During his career at John Laing he played in four National Finals at the Royal Albert Hall and The Grand Shield.

He has made more comebacks than Frank Sinatra and has found another lease of life by taking on the Flugel at St A's, mainly as the part is covered by cornets and horns so he can take long rests in between playing tunes.

Gari is married to Elizabeth and has two daughters at University.
