St Albans City Band came away happy from the Leicestershire Brass Band Association Contest on Sunday 29th November after commanding a very respectable fourth place out of a total of eleven bands.
Playing 'Trittico' by James Curnow the band were playing at it's first contest since the appointment of new Musical Director Phillip Littlemore in August 2009. Adjudicator Mark Wilkinson said in his closing address that '...the top four bands stood out from the rest...' and the band were pleased to see a set of positive and helpful comments about their performance of Curnow's composition. This contest success gives the band a firm grounding for working towards the Areas in March 2010 and producing a first rate performance of the set testpiece for that contest, Gustav Holzt's 'A Moorside Suite'.
