London & Southern Counties Area Contest PDF Print E-mail
After all the its hard work, the band was very disappointed with its low finishing position at Stevenage on 19th March.  We were well below our best on the day and collectively there was perhaps a little too much (misplaced) apprehension at our debut in Section 1.

I think we all know that we are more than capable of holding our own in this section as long as we continue to improve our efforts, both in home practice and application in the rehearsal room.   Hopefully , this will prove a valuable learning experience in the longer term and by March 2006 we will approach the Area contest with a level of self belief that  will allow us to do ourselves justice on the stage.

According to the adjudicator, David Read, our main flaws were technical rather than musical, which is encouraging, as it implies that our ensemble, intonation, dynamics and band sound were generally more than good enough.  I'm sure that our technical flaws on the day were more driven my nerves than any general lack of ability.  If we had played more confidently, a top half finish was well within our compass.

We can now look forward to preparing our Summer concert repertoire and continuing to build upon the rapid progression of this band over the last 5 years from Section 4 to Section 1.

Onwards an upwards!
