Opening of the Summer season PDF Print E-mail
Our 10 piece opened the Summer season this year by playing for a Fair Trade event in St Albans City Centre on 5th March.  Last year the weather at the beginning of March was idyllic (or so it seems in fond memory) but this year was different.

We were supposed to play in a marquee but it had been mislaid so we were in the open.  We decided to keep coats on rather than display our proper uniforms and, as the temperature was at least three degrees above freezing, the sun was shining faintly and the wind was only the strength that would make for comfortable wind surfing, we were optimistic.

However, during our first set the sun disappeared, the wind rose and we were very grateful for the steaming cups of Fair Trade coffee and tea offered at the break.

During our second set the temperature dropped further, the wind became strong enough for top class wind surfing competitions (certainly strong enough to blow music stands over) and we concluded our programme as the sporadic snow showers became more and more frequent.  All in all, an interesting morning out.

We look forward to more clement conditions for our next engagement in June, but turning out and entertaining the crowds in all weather conditions says something about the comradeship of banding.
