| | Tony Marriott started playing in the early 1980s, envious of his children's enjoyment of their music groups. He played for Harpenden Band for a few years until it disappeared and, after a break during which withdrawal symptoms became stronger, joined St Albans when it consisted of about a dozen players and no hope of being a serious fourth section contender.
Tony still regards playing as part of his therapy.
He is also
chairman of the National Children's Wind and Chamber Orchestras of
Great Britain and, as there is a national shortage of young euphonium
players, has occasionally become the oldest 15 year old in the business
for the sake of musical balance.
In real life he is a Consulting
Engineer and, starting his working life in aerospace, spent most of it
in the construction industry where he is still kept very busy.
